Kryptiq Applauds Steps to Improve Healthcare Efficiency and Patient–Centered Care

Kryptiq Supports Congressman Patrick Kennedy’s Bill to Advance Efficiency and Effectiveness of Physician to Patient Relationship

Portland, Ore.– March 1, 2007 – Kryptiq Corporation, the leading provider of workflow and connectivity solutions for healthcare, today announced its support of Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy’s new version of the Personalized Health Information Act, legislation to promote the use of patient-controlled, Web-based personal health records and secure communications between doctors and their patients. Kryptiq sees this bill as playing a key role in enabling physician offices with internet connections to benefit from IT without major up-front investments. The bill underscores the benefits of solutions like Kryptiq’s connectivity products, in use today by thousands of physicians across the country, to improve patient safety and access to services, reduce healthcare costs, and empower patients to take a greater role in their own health stewardship. The bill serves as a proof point for the transition already in progress to a more patient-centered healthcare model, as shifts in demographics, economics, technology and policy inevitably mean individuals demand a more active role in their healthcare decision making.

“Secure clinical messaging is a first step and presents the single biggest opportunity to quickly and cost-effectively modernize our healthcare system,” said Luis Machuca, president and CEO of Kryptiq. “Kryptiq has worked with physician groups and healthcare delivery systems for a number of years to make personal health data and related online services more readily available to patients and their healthcare providers. Our current physician customers are ideally positioned to benefit from the Personalized Health Information Act, and already report considerable improvements in office efficiency and patient satisfaction. Others who are ready to make the transition to a more patient-centered model can use our product to comply with the high standards of security and transparency health records now require.”

Kryptiq applauds the new version of the Personalized Health Information Act for its initiative to allow patient-specific communications between doctors and patients. Industry analysts predict that financially, the pressure by Medicare and private health insurers to hold down costs and shift more of the burden to individuals will force people to make more healthcare spending choices. The influence of aging baby boomers who are accustomed to personal choice and to technology that has been prominent in other industries such as finance is now impacting healthcare, manifesting itself in patients who want a say in their treatment decisions and easier access to services than the telephone and office visit. The legislation illustrates that the relevant technologies required to accomplish this transformation are neither complex nor expensive. They are embedded in every day tools such as secure email and messaging, now being applied to the healthcare industry.
