Kryptiq Connectivity Summit Fuels Healthcare Transformation Momentum

CEO Directs Industry to Create National Health Information Network One Physician Office, One Workflow at a Time

PORTLAND, Ore. – May 23, 2005 – ‘Join Now’ was the primary theme at the second annual Healthcare Connectivity Summit opened by Blackford Middleton, chairman of the Center for Information Technology Leadership (CITL), that attracted over 200 leaders from across the country representing providers, payers, healthcare IT vendors and public policy makers. At the Summit, Kryptiq president and CEO, Luis Machuca called on the healthcare industry to move toward an integrated information exchange now, using the same technologies that fueled the explosive growth of the PC industry. In his closing remarks, Mr. Machuca commented on the coming wave of healthcare connectivity from his perspective as a former technology executive at Intel, recalling that widespread PC adoption was accelerated by networking, email, and the ability to share information.

“Healthcare has yet to realize the impact of a networked environment,” commented Machuca. “While the industry trend is toward large scale, costly RHIO implementations, connectivity is happening right now in communities across the U.S. Healthcare leaders must focus on creating connectivity one node, one practice, and one workflow at a time. The network benefit of this effort will drive significant near-term improvements in care and lowered costs.”

The Kryptiq Connectivity Summit explored the latest trends and thinking regarding healthcare connectivity, interoperability, and transformation. The two-day conference sparked intense discussion and debate on current and future approaches to healthcare connectivity, including presentations and panel discussions representing both provider and payer perspectives. Session topics included The Financial Case for Connectivity; Case Studies in Connecting Communities; Practice Transformation; Connecting Providers and Payers, and Multi-vendor Collaboration – a panel discussion with representatives from GE Healthcare, WebMD, SureScripts, MedcomSoft, Forrester Research, and the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT).

“Speakers from many regions of the U.S. showcased how their organizations are increasing the value of existing investments in electronic health record systems by deploying readily available connectivity solutions,” said Malcolm Costello, vice president at Kryptiq. “At a time when many are looking for a blueprint for progress across the country, this conference validated the clinical and financial benefits that many communities are experiencing today from the fluid exchange of health information.”
