Medical Providers Across U.S. Adopt Secure Online Services from Kryptiq to Improve Access to Physicians
Kryptiq’s Integrated Web Portal Makes it Easier for Patients to Communicate With Physicians, Schedule Appointments, Access Personal Medical Information and More
PORTLAND, Ore — March 31, 2004 — Kryptiq Corp. announced today that four medical providers across the U.S. have purchased CareCatalyst™ to deliver secure online services to their more than 100,000 primary care patients. CareCatalyst is an integrated Web portal that improves patient-physician communication by providing patients access to medical information stored in back-end clinical information systems. Once only available to physicians and their staffs, CareCatalyst provides patients secure online access to such services as appointment scheduling, eVisits, bill payment, referral requests and prescription renewals. The newest customers to select Kryptiq’s technology for delivering these online services and provide 24-hour access to personal health information include GreenField Health System of Portland, Ore.; the Westchester Medical Group of Central Westchester County in New York; Thompson Peak Family Care in Scottsdale, Ariz.; and PatientCare Family Clinic of Springfield, MO.
CareCatalyst is the first online Web portal solution that automatically accesses the information stored in the electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management systems and makes it available online in an easy-to-understand language for patients. In addition, patients’ online interactions are automatically updated in these systems as they occur. This integration enables the most up-to-date information to be available at the point of care at all times and eliminates the need for manual entry or for cutting and pasting entries from one application to another. CareCatalyst improves the portability of patient records, reduces clinic dependency on the phone, increases staff efficiency, improves delivery of care to patients and provides patients direct access to their personal health records.
“We see CareCatalyst as a tremendous tool for improving our communication with our patients and for providing our patients an easy-to-use, secure online resource that will ultimately make them more active participants in their healthcare decisions,” said Robert D. Segal, M.D., from Thompson Peak Family Care.
CareCatalyst functions as a stand-alone Web presence for a clinic or it can be added as a secure area of an existing Web site. It supports customization, configuration, and content administration without complex programming. Most significantly, CareCatalyst allows structured patient data created from online interactions to be stored directly to the patient’s chart in the EMR. At GreenField Health System, for example, the staff will no longer manually enter patient registration data; instead, patients will complete an online registration form accessible at home or in the clinic, and the information will automatically be updated in both the practice management and electronic medical record systems.
“As physicians, the doctors at Westchester want to make sure our patients have the most convenient access possible to us and their medical information. CareCatalyst will make the information they are entitled to available in a single location, as well as in the systems we use on a daily basis, so that we can make the best possible care decisions quickly and efficiently,” said Simeon Schwartz, M.D., CEO of the Westchester Medical Group. “Our patients will see a noticeable change in the level of service we can provide with CareCatalyst. Once in place, they will have instant access to their personal information, be able to send secure emails to their doctors, schedule appointments, and much more – all online.”
According to Dr. Schwartz, the goal at Westchester Medical Group is to improve the speed and quality of care each and every patient receives on a daily basis. CareCatalyst should be up and running within the next 30 days. He also says that Westchester plans to eventually use CareCatalyst to support patient-specific disease management, including patient education and self-directed patient care.
“CareCatalyst makes it possible, today, for physicians to provide patients secure access to their personal health information, as well as new, time-saving services, from a single interface,” said Luis Machuca, president and CEO of Kryptiq. “The rapid adoption of CareCatalyst by these customers represents the industry’s readiness to adopt electronic healthcare records using standards-based interoperability and connectivity technologies.” Machuca added there are at least a dozen more providers already planning to implement CareCatalyst in 2004, which was just made publicly available at the end of February.
