Kryptiq Joins AAFP Partners for Patients in EHR Movement
Kryptiq Joins American Academy of Family Physicians to
Enable Electronic Health Record Portability in Today’s Medical Practices
PORTLAND, Ore., and WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 22, 2004 – Kryptiq Corp. has joined the American Academy of Family Physicians’ (AAFP) Partners for Patients initiative to advance the connectivity of electronic health record (EHR) technologies in today’s medical practices. The goal of the initiative is to speed the adoption of EHR systems in small- and medium-size medical practices. Kryptiq’s ability to interface with existing EHR systems and provide secure connectivity solutions that are based on industry leading standards, such as the Continuity of Care Record (CCR), will be critical to the success of this effort.
“The general lack of connectivity to labs, pharmacies, hospitals, and from one doctor's system to another, is a further impediment to widespread adoption of EHRs at this time,” said David C. Kibbe, director of the AAFP Center for Health Information Technology. “At the AAFP, we’re serious about helping to make EHRs and other health information technology more affordable and standardized for our members and other physicians’ practices. We greatly appreciate Kryptiq’s support for a principle-based, industry-wide approach for enabling technology adoption in healthcare.”
According to Kibbe, family physicians, and others in small- and medium-size medical practices, are frustrated by the wasted time, the lack of access to needed information, and the duplication of effort involved with paper record systems. Most physicians already use computerized systems for billing, banking and other online services. They are ready to adopt this same level of automation in their practices and are looking for technologies that complement their daily workflow and improve patient care. EHRs serve as the central medical record information system for physicians and their staff. To support collaborative care in today’s health system, an EHR system must allow this information to be shared among providers, between locations of care and between separate EHR systems.
Kryptiq enables information sharing and enhanced patient-physician communication through secure email, as well as through a customizable, secure Web portal that can be deployed at the physicians’ practice. By interfacing directly with existing clinical information systems, Kryptiq’s solutions automatically update patient records to accurately reflect the health of the patient, thus reducing duplicate data entry and medical errors. By leveraging patient information already stored in the electronic medical record (EMR) system, Kryptiq’s technologies improve practice efficiency and provide physicians and patients access to the most accurate and up-to-date information at the point of care.
“Kryptiq is committed to helping patients receive the best and most efficient care possible by enabling critical health information to be accessed where and when it is needed,” said Luis Machuca, president and CEO of Kryptiq. “Kryptiq understands how physicians work and the requirements for technologies that will support how they interact with patients on a daily basis. The company’s technology solutions are designed specifically to fit these needs. We are looking forward to working with the AAFP to promote affordable solutions that will make the connected practice a true reality.”
