The nation’s largest e-prescription network, Surescripts, announced it is partnering with Kryptiq to expand its current e-prescribing platform to make it easier for all health care providers, electronic health record systems, pharmacies, Pharmacy Benefit Managers and regional health information exchanges to connect, communicate and share clinical information, based entirely on Kryptiq’s secure messaging technology.
Together with Kryptiq, Surescripts is expanding its existing network, which currently serves over 200,000 healthcare prescribers, to allow every physician, hospital, HIE and healthcare provider in the country to electronically exchange clinical information with one another. The Surescripts network will remain complementary to current EHR, HIE and health system networks by allowing them to connect to a national backbone that, in turn, can connect them with any other network.
Kryptiq’s secure messaging is an enabling technology to this landmark open, neutral healthcare network. Surescripts is also making a strategic investment in Kryptiq, signaling a deep commitment on the part of both companies to build a national network of clinical interoperability services.
Starting in December 2010, Surescripts will offer several new services – leveraging Kryptiq leading clinical messaging technology – to allow virtually any physician or healthcare organization around the country to share clinical information securely and efficiently, within their existing workflows.
This is significant news for the nation’s healthcare system as it removes one of the most fundamental barriers to effective information sharing today – the lack of an open network and transport layer between disparate systems. And it is significant news for Kryptiq. Our technology will now be a core part of Surescripts’ new services and directly accessible to hundreds of EHRs and thousands of providers across the country. This will significantly expand the company’s reach.
In addition to this partnership, Kryptiq will continue to serve its customer base with additional software and services, including solutions for patient engagement, patient revenue capture and care management.
The time is now for this large-scale national healthcare network. Despite the efforts of the ARRA and other programs meant to encourage the use of health information technology, true clinical message exchange – when executed – still largely relies on outdated phone/fax-based technology, or is limited to users of regional or proprietary networks.
Especially now with Kryptiq’s additional Secure Messaging platform, Surescripts has the infrastructure, relationships and experience in place to expand its network operations to accommodate the nationwide exchange of clinical information between physicians.
Congratulations to Surescripts. Here’s to realizing a shared vision for America’s open, interactive healthcare network.
